Alex here is an empathic vampire, which means he has the ability to sense the emotions of other living beings (aka empathy) and straight up feeds on emotions to survive. He can prey on specific emotions or just chomp on every single one in a person's head. Alex cannot feed on a person without physical contact (touching, kissing, etc.) and to the person being fed on, it's like an adrenaline rush combined with the emotion he's feeding on getting stronger. (For example, if he feeds on anger, the person being fed on starts getting angrier about things in general.) Once he's done feeding, the emotion weakens to its normal levels in a couple minutes.
Note: He cannot permanently drain someone of their emotions and usually does not drain them completely unless he's starving or genuinely helping someone out by removing an emotion. When he drains a person, they become lethargic and don't feel that emotion again until they've slept or after about half an hour.
Also, like vampires of lore, he can mesmerize people, which is basically hypnotizing people with his eyes to do what he wants aka let him drain your emotions by sucking on your neck for a couple of minutes. He can only do this in person and if his or their eyes aren't blocked by something (i.e. dark sunglasses, blindfolds, whatever) or they aren't blind.
